International camp "EcoBioSphere"

August 4-18, 2009

Session for undergraduates, postgraduates and specialists engaged in different fields of biological scientific research

Objectives:

  • Support of scientific creativity and organization of students’ leisure activities, ecological education and enlightenment.
  • Experience with the conduct of scientific field work in a harsh environment*.
  • Development of Kamchatka ecotourism as an alternative to nature destructing forms of economy.
  • Youths’ international cooperation development.
  • Youths’ acquaintance with the wild world nature heritage and with technologies of its study and conservation.
  • Attraction of the youths into socially meaningful activities and healthy way of life.
  • Shaping of conceptions of ecological significance of the world natural heritage and of scientifically grounded of ecological outlook.

Expedition is held at the camping site of the Kamchatka Regional State Institution “Nature Park “Nalychevo”.

Participants must be in good health, be capable undertaking long, strenuous hikes carrying substantial loads, and be willing to camp under primitive and remote conditions.

Programme of the camp includes:

Young Researchers School (YRS) (lectures, practical classes on methods of conducting field works for flora and fauna studying):

· Studying of the Nature Park “Nalychevo” ecosystems.

· Studying of the river salmon ecosystem, and biology of salmon.

· Species definition of the littoral zone.

· Goebotanical and phenological research.

· Zoological and ornithological excursions in nature.

Basic conversational ability in either English or Russian is required.

! The organization fee for participation is 18000 rub per person (travel cost Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - the Nature Park “Nalychevo” – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, living, meals).
