Today the faculty of physics and mathematics trains not only teachers of physics, mathematics and computer studies. Speciality “Applied mathematics and computer studies” is a speciality of the classical University. It gives qualification “Mathematician programmer”. If you are fond of tourism, adventures and geography, the speciality “Geography” is just for you. The speciality “Applied geology” at the faculty of physics and mathematics is also interesting and worth-while. Geologist's work means extraction of gold and platinum, prospecting of oil and gas. Students geophysics have an opportunity to look in bowels of the earth with the help of modern equipment. They can see where the deposits of minerals are situated, how volcanoes and geysers are for-med, why and where earthquakes take place.
Computer studies are often combined with different specialities, for example, “Computer studies and English”. This unusual combination is explained by great connections between two subjects. Nowa-days speciality “Computer studies and English” is very promising. Graduates of the speciality have a good chance to find a well-paid job in different spheres. That is why this speciality is one of the most prestige ones at the University.
Education in the sphere of new compu-ter technologies gives an interesting and reliable profession. It answers the require-ments of different specialities (book-keeping, management, etc.), where computer techno-logies are widely used.
Constantly growing quantity of candi-dates proves the popularity of the specialities among young people. Appearing of such specialities as geography, geophysics, applied mathematics and computer studies corresponds to common development of our region and satisfies the demands of our town in specialists.
The faculty is well-equipped with modern computers. Students can work in one of our four computer-rooms or in one of the University laboratories, the number of which is always growing. There are such laboratories at the chair of physics as the laboratory of mechanics, of molecular physics and thermodynamics, electro-dynamics, optics, quantum physics, nuclear physics, physics of condensed mediums, astrophysics
Professors of the chair of mathematics and students work out the problem of
distant education.
They created educational control electronic system on the
University server, electronic text-books, expositional segment 'Education' in
All-Russia exhibition center. They also take part in regional exhibitions, make
repots at teachers' and students' scientific conferences.
One of the oldest chairs of the University, the chair of mathematics trained more than 1500 specialists, who arealways in great demand in our town and region. High level of knowledge allows our graduates to be not only school teachers, but also leaders of educational establishments, teachers of institutions of higher education, specialists in administrative, production and financial branches.

THE FACULTY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
The faculty of foreign languages was founded in June, 1992, though Kamchatka
State University has been training specialists in foreign languages
for more than 40 years.
Today the faculty of foreign languages is not only the
leading faculty of the University, but it is also one of the most prestige and
popular faculties among candidates for University.
Nowadays we can observe the great development of computer technologies, means of communication, business and cultural contacts between different countries.
That is why it is necessary to have a good command of foreign languages. It ensures success in finding a good job. It is integral feature of any educated person of the third Millennium. It is advisable to know more than one foreign language in modern society. The students of the faculty of foreign languages have such unique opportunity.
The faculty invites those who wish to study at the speciality “Foreign languages”: English and German, English and French, English and Chinese, English and Japanese, Japanese and English. Since 2001 the new speciality “ Translation and translation studies” has been created, it gives qualification “ Linguist interpreter of two foreign languages”. The main language is English and additional languages are Korean, Japanese, French or German.
Teachers of four chairs of the faculty train students. The chair of the English language works with first- and second-year students. Assistants and professors of the chair of English philology educate senior students. The chair of the second foreign language trains students in French and German. Oriental languages are taught by assistants and professors of the chair of Oriental languages. Teachers of all the chairs of the faculty improve their qualification regularly during practical studies at the Universities of Great Britain, USA, Japan, China and Korea. Native speakers of English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean work at the faculty constantly.
The faculty has many traditions. It celebrates different holidays, such as St. Valentine's Day, Christmas, New Year, Halloween. Unforgettable last bells and staging of plays of famous English and American playwrights take place at the faculty. During the annual week of students' sciencestudents can participate in contests of English songs, verses and wall newspapers. The faculty is proud of its KVN team.
That is why students and teaching staff of the faculty answer “To be!” to almost Hamlet's question “To be or not to be... a student of the faculty of foreign languages?”

he faculty of psychology and pedagogics, though being very young, is widely popular among the students. If the first enrolment of the full-time students at the faculty of psychology was rather insignificant, nowadays more than 500 students study at the faculty of psychology and pedagogics. The great increase of students, choosing the speciality “psychology”, reflects the changes of public consciousness to the problem of psychological health of people. The practical psychology with all its possibilities gradually penetrates into all layers of social life. Psychologists are greatly required today: these are the establishments of education and social support, force and industrial structures, public relations, etc. It means that our graduates will be able to find worthy application of their professional knowledge.
The teachers of the faculty of psychology and pedagogics are not only professors and candidates, but leading psychiatrists, defectologists, speech therapists and biologists of the city. It is especially important because the majority of subjects the students of the faculty study according to the state educational standard is of practical importance. The curriculum provides practical work, which allows to approve theoretical knowledge, acquire new skills. At the psychological faculty the new Centre of practical psychology works, where students have an opportunity to improve their professional skills.
The students of the faculty have the possibility to continue their education after they graduate from the university. At the University post-graduate courses young researchers can work under the supervision of professors and assistant professors of the faculty chair. More than 50 % of post graduates of the University study at the post graduate courses of the chair of psychology and pedagogics.
Qualified teaching is impossible without technical equipment. Specialized reading-rooms, computer classes, laboratories are at the disposal of the faculty students. The new informational technologies are actively introduced into the process of teaching. The electronic variants of educational supplies on special subjects are created for students. Examinations also can be taken electronically.
The life of the faculty isn't limited by studies. Possibly the specific features of the subjects under study create the special “psychological” climate, the atmosphere of unity and cooperation of students and teachers. The tradition of the young faculty is joint participation in preparation and realization of the faculty and university holidays. One of the traditions is “Magic Party”, which is held on the New Year's eve. The team of the faculty takes part in the annual competition KVN (humour competition). Students demonstrate their vocal, dramatic, choreographic, literary abilities at different festivals, held at the university.
A new sport complex is at the disposal of our students. Students can attend different sport-clubs: basketball, volley-ball, tennis, swimming, etc.
Full-time students can study both free of charge or pay for their education, the studying of external or part-time students is to be paid for.

THE FACULTY OF HISTORY

The historical faculty trains teachers in speciality “History” and economists in speciality “Economy”.
Graduates of the faculty get such
qualifications as:

In 2002 the faculty of history celebrates its thirtieth anniversary. It is the age of creative daring attempts, of bold opinions, of weighted (?) salvations.
To say that the faculty of history is the most interesting faculty at the
University means to say nothing.
The historical faculty has many departments.
They are history and the English language, history and geography, geography and
history, history and law, world economy ( with knowledge of foreign languages).
Graduates of the historical faculty have a real opportunity to realize their knowledge in different spheres of activity. They work at schools of our city and region, libraries and museums, radio and television, public prosecutor's office, Ministry for Internal Affairs and Federal Security Service, regional administration. Many graduates continue their education at the post-graduate courses of our University and central institutions of Russia.
The historical faculty is the most available one. There are practically no comer-cial groups here. More than 300 full-time students study free of charge.
The historical faculty is the most united and harmonious one. The atmosphere of respect, common understanding and creative activity reigns here. The faculty has taken the first prize for 7 years at the University KVN. The tradition of city KVN began from the meeting of the historical faculty team and the team of Kamchatka fleet. KVN team “Vaganti” consists of students and graduates of the historical faculty mostly. New generation of historians keeps faculty traditions and stu-dents' brotherhood.
The historical faculty is the faculty of the most conscientious and responsible students: 50% of them get only good and excellent marks. The best students recieve governmental grants.
The historical faculty is the most hospitable one. The governor of Kamchatka region Mashkovtsev M.B., the deputy of the State Duma Dorogin V.F., Kamchatka bishop Ignatiy and other famous people of Kamchatka like to visit “Political club” of the faculty of history.
The historical faculty possesses the best conference and concert hall in the
region. All the University and city meetings are held here. The faculty has
friendly relations with Kamchatka regional philharmonic society.
Faculty students visit concerts, musical and creative parties with pleasure.
At last the historical faculty is the nicest one. The building of the historical faculty is situated in the historical center of our city, in a picturesque place at the foot of the Love hill.
The historical faculty means talented and intellectual students and teachers, who give their knowledge and life to the favourite job and faculty.

THE PHILOLOGICAL FACULTY OF KAMCHATKA STATE UNIVERSITY
The oldest faculty of Kamchatka State University invites those who want to become specialists in the Russian language, literature and journalism. Highly skilled specialists, most of them (about 70 %) have candidate's and Doctor's degrees, work at the chairs of the philological faculty. Professional linguists and literary scholars will aquaint future philologists with the wide spectrum of special subjects: history and theory of the Russian language and literature, folklore studies and dialectology, foreign and children's literature, rhetorics and stylistics. The University provides high-quality humanitarian education of different levels: general, pedagogical, special. The students who wish to realize their intellectual abilities completely can enter the post-graduate courses. At the philological faculty there are post-graduates courses on the main subjects “Russian language” and “Russian literature”. The teachers of the faculty are highly skilled, most of them finished post-graduate courses or took doctoral courses in the institutions of our capital. They are capable to provide high-grade supervision for the young scientists.
The students of non-commercial specialties “Russian language and Literature” and “Journalism” are fully provided with necessary literature. The publishing-house of the University makes copies of rare text books and materials if it is necessary.
Everybody knows that student's life is not only studies, but a very concentrated extra-curricular activity. In this respect the philological faculty is one of the brightest faculties of our university. Here any student can completely realize his creative abilities: choreographic, vocal, dramatic, literary. The KVN (humour competition) team “Fifa” of the philological faculty is well-known in our town. At the last competition it won the first prize and got a pass to the regional competition in Vladivostok. Our talanted students take part in numerous creative parties, competitions, club meetings, they cooperate with the Regional library and work in mass media. Future journalists can try their hand in the students' newspaper of the University “Alma Mater” or create their own radio or TV-studio. The philological faculty invites all lovers of the Russian language, poetical interpretation, all those, who are fond of verse and prose.
We love our faculty. Teachers and students are a friendly family, where culture, intellect and creative work are valued. The teachers not only teach, but also communicate with their students. Our students become thankful graduates, they don't forget their faculty and always speak well of it. Every student of the faculty determines his priorities in different ways, but all of them are connected with the philological faculty:
