International camp "Mutnovsky"

International Scientific volcanological field school is organized for undergraduates, postgraduates and specialists engaged in the field of Earth Sciences.

The place of the expedition: volcano Mutnovsky

During the program young researches can gain experience & knowledge of leading specialists taking part in geological routes, observing definite geological processes, taking part in collecting & processing factual materials. It is planned to carry out lectures about, seminars, thematic quizzes and leisure activities.

At the classes in the camp the participants are given theoretical and practical information about the geological history of the area, the main stages of the Mutnovsky and the Gorely volcanoes formation, the Mutnovsky geothermal area, as well as about the common data concerning volcanological aspects in physics and chemistry. School participants have the opportunity to view the present methods of researches in the informal situations, to take part both in the already implemented projects (e.g. gas and hydro geological monitoring of the Mutnovsky volcano, its geological and geomorphologic processes in the crater zone, the present hydrothermal systems of the Mutnovsky steam deposit) as well as in the projects suggested by themselves. Geological excursions and scientific seminars are conducted by scientific workers of the leading scientific center of Kamchatka and the Far East.

** Students must be in good health, be capable undertaking long, strenuous hikes carrying substantial loads, and be willing to camp under primitive and remote conditions.
